Raha is his dal chawal: Ranbir’s Ramayana co-star recalls set conversation

Actor Ranbir Kapoor told his Ramayana co-star Indira Krishnan that his daughter Raha is to him what dal chawal is to someone who likes simple food.

Krishnan recalled her conversation with the 42-year-old in a recent interview. She also shared that Kapoor came first in a race he ran for her daughter.

In an interview , Krishnan said, “He (Ranbir) told me Raha is his dal chawal. The simplicity and love with which he talks about his daughter-it stayed with me. Every day he would remind me, ‘Ma’am, did you get the books for Raha?'”

She further recalledKapoor limping on sets after he ran a race for Raha. “I asked him what happened, and he said, ‘There was a race, Indira ji. I ran for Raha. And I came first.’ He’d pulled a muscle but still showed up to work like nothing had happened. That’s Ranbir. A father before anything else,” Krishnan said.

In the interview, the actor also called Kapoor her favourite co-star. She said Ranbir would go out of his way to make her feel comfortable on the set. She recounted that he often pulled a chair, checked in on her and shared thoughtful conversations.

The first look of the much-anticipated film was shared by the makers last week. The video received appreciation from not just fans but also celebrities online, who expressed their excitement about watching the film on the big screen.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is slated for a theatrical release on Diwali 2026. The film would feature Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
