Imran Khan Killed In Prison? Despite Death Rumours, PTI Workers Demand Ex Pak PM’s Release From Adiala Jail
Rumours swept across social media on Wednesday claiming that former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had been killed in custody by the Pakistani military.
The claims, amplified by a post from the Afghanistan Times citing “credible sources,” suggested Khan’s body had been removed from Adiala Jail.
In a post, it wrote, “A credible source from Pakistan has confirmed to Afghanistan Times that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has allegedly been mysteriously killed, and his body has been moved out of the prison.”
However, no confirmation has come from mainstream outlets such as Dawn or Al Jazeera, nor from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, leaving the reports unverified.
Despite the lack of evidence, there was unrest outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Khan’s sisters and PTI supporters staged demonstrations demanding access to the jailed leader. Protesters attempted to march toward the prison but were blocked by police checkpoints. The sisters-Aleema, Uzma, and Noreen Khan-were briefly detained last week after being denied permission to meet their brother, intensifying concerns about his isolation, according to a report in The Express Tribune.
Khan, who has faced a string of legal cases since his ouster in 2022, remains incarcerated on charges ranging from corruption to contempt of court. His supporters argue the prosecutions are politically motivated, aimed at sidelining him from Pakistan’s political landscape. Similar rumours about his death have circulated before, only to be debunked.
The sit-in outside Adiala Road, joined by PTI leaders including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja, ended peacefully after negotiations with authorities. Protesters condemned Khan’s continued isolation as unconstitutional and vowed to persist in their campaign for his release. “We stand unarmed with the strength of principles,” Raja told demonstrators, insisting that public pressure would ultimately secure Khan’s freedom.
Deputy Chairman of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, warned that the nation’s patience was wearing thin. He claimed that there will be a revolution if all avenues are blocked.
