Aadhaar Card Name Update: How To Change Your Date Of Birth, Address, Name And Phone Number Online For Free

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it easier than ever to keep your Aadhaar details up to date. If you’ve recently shifted to a new home, need to make small corrections in your name, or even want to update your date of birth (within certain limits), you can now do it online for free through the myAadhaar portal .
The service is part of UIDAI’s push to keep Aadhaar details accurate and is currently available at no cost. Here’s everything you need to know.
What You’ll Need Before Starting
Before you jump into the update process, keep a few things handy:
-Your Aadhaar number
-A mobile number that’s already linked to Aadhaar
-Soft copies of valid documents (PDF or JPEG format) that support the changes you want to make
The registered mobile number is essential because an OTP (one-time password) will be sent to it for authentication. For example, if you’re changing your address, you’ll need a utility bill or rent agreement. If it’s a correction in your date of birth, you’ll need a school certificate or official ID that shows the right details.
Step-By-Step Guide To Update Aadhaar Online
-Visit myAadhaar and click on Login.
-Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
-After logging in, select Update Aadhaar Online.
-Pick the detail you want to change– name (minor changes), address, date of birth, gender, or language.
-Upload the supporting documents.
-Submit the request.
Once done, you’ll receive a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN). You can monitor the status of your request with this number. Usually, updates take a few days to reflect.
What You Can’t Do Online
Not everything can be handled from the comfort of your home. Biometric updates like fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs require a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Similarly, major changes such as a full name change (say, after marriage or divorce) or correcting your date of birth beyond allowed limits also need in-person verification.
Tracking Your Update Request
After submitting the update, head back to the myAadhaar portal, log in, and click on Check Update Status. Enter your Aadhaar number and URN to see the progress. If your update request is rejected, UIDAI will let you know why. You can then reapply with corrected or more appropriate documents.
