Actor Kamal Haasan moves High Court seeking release of his film ‘Thug Life’ amid Kannada language row

ctor Kamal Haasan has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking directions to ensure the release and screening of his upcoming film Thug Life in the state, following widespread backlash over his recent comments about the origins of the Kannada language.

The actor has come under fire in Karnataka for claiming that the Kannada language originated from Tamil, a remark that has triggered strong opposition in the state. Amid calls to halt the release of Thug Life, scheduled to hit cinemas on June 5, Kamal Haasan has sought legal intervention to prevent any disruption.

In his petition, filed through the Chief Executive Officer of his production company Raaj Kamal Films International, Kamal Haasan has urged the court to direct the Karnataka state government, the police department, and film trade bodies not to obstruct the film’s release. The petition also seeks instructions to the Director General of Police and the City Police Commissioner to ensure adequate security arrangements for the screening.
