Bengal Weather: Heavy Rain In Darjeeling, Other Northern Districts As Monsoon Hits Early; South Bengal To Face Dry Spell

Bengal Weather: The low-pressure system has moved away, and the Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast a rise in temperatures across South Bengal.

An increase of three to five degrees Celsius is expected. For now, dry weather will prevail in most districts of the region. While the monsoon has already reached North Bengal, it has yet to arrive in the southern part of the state. Residents of South Bengal will need to wait a few more days for the monsoon’s arrival.

Bengal Weather:The Meteorological Office has forecast scattered rain accompanied by thundershowers in parts of East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad on Saturday, along with gusty winds. However, no such weather activity is expected in the other districts. Starting Saturday, dry conditions are likely to prevail across most of South Bengal. No significant change in temperature is expected over the next 24 hours, but a gradual rise in temperature is anticipated over the following four days.

The monsoon has arrived early in North Bengal, bringing the likelihood of heavy rainfall over the coming days, particularly in districts like Darjeeling. An orange alert has been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar on Saturday, with forecasts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 12 to 20 cm. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are also expected in these areas.

Bengal Weather:In contrast, Malda, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur are not expected to receive heavy rainfall, though scattered thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may continue. Warnings for heavy rain in Darjeeling and Kalimpong remain in place for Sunday as well. Rainfall is expected to persist across North Bengal, but temperatures are likely to rise simultaneously, with a possible increase of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the northern districts over the next four days.

In Kolkata, the minimum temperature on Saturday was 28°C, which is close to the seasonal average. The maximum temperature on Friday stood at 32°C, about 3.1 degrees below normal.
