Bengaluru: Deputy CM Sets November Deadline For Citywide Pothole Repairs After Start-Up Exit Row

Bengaluru News: Bengaluru Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has given contractors until November to complete pothole repairs across the city, as public anger grows over worsening road conditions and poor civic management.
The decision comes after a start-up CEO went viral for announcing his company’s exit from the city’s Outer Ring Road area due to daily traffic chaos and damaged roads.
Mr Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru development, said the government would not tolerate further delays. “Contractors have been given a final deadline to fill the potholes within November. A clean city and smooth traffic are our priorities, and the Greater Bengaluru Authority will ensure the relief is visible soon,” he wrote on X.
According to a NDTV report, on Wednesday, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan carried out inspections in CV Raman Nagar. He noted issues such as broken footpaths, pothole-filled roads, unattended waste and poor solid waste management. He directed ward-level officials to prepare a list of “black spots” where waste accumulation is a recurring problem.
The latest push comes as the business community voices strong criticism. Rajesh Yabaji, co-founder of logistics firm BlackBuck, said his company would move out of Bellandur after nine years. He cited worsening commutes, deteriorating road quality and lack of corrective action as reasons for the shift. His post on X gained wide traction, with residents echoing his frustration.
Industry veteran Mohandas Pai also shared concerns, calling Bengaluru’s civic neglect a “failure of governance.” Tagging top leaders, he warned that companies leaving the Outer Ring Road would harm the city’s image as India’s technology hub.
Alongside pothole work, the government has approved black topping of 182 roads covering 349 km, at a cost of Rs 694 crore. Officials have been instructed to make sure that completed stretches are free of waterlogging and potholes after resurfacing. This follows the Deputy Chief Minister’s earlier announcement of a Rs 1,100 crore fund for city road repairs and new projects.
