Bhopal: 52 Kg Gold, Rs 10 Crore Cash Seized From Abandoned Car After Lokayukta Raid On Ex-RTA Constable

Madhya Pradesh police and Income Tax officials had seized 52 kg of gold, worth over Rs 40 crore, along with Rs 9.86 crore in cash from an abandoned car found in the Mendori forest area of Bhopal. The recovery was made during ongoing raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Lokayukta, and the Income Tax (IT) department on real estate businesses.

The car was found abandoned along the Mendori-Kushalpur road within the jurisdiction of the Ratibad police station in Bhopal. After receiving the information, authorities rushed to the spot and seized the cash, and initiated an investigation into the incident, news agency ANI reported citing police sources.

“On Thursday night, we received information that there is an abandoned car near Mendori-Kushalpur road under Ratibad police station limits. Acting on it, the police reached the spot and found that there were around seven-eight bags inside the car. It was suspected that due to the raid action of IT and other departments in the last a few days, someone might have left its property there,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Bhopal Zone-1), Priyanka Shukla told news agency ANI.

“When the bags were checked, around 52 kg of gold worth around Rs 40 crores and around Rs 9.86 crores of cash money was recovered from it. Further action was being taken by the IT department,” she further added.

The officer also mentioned that the vehicle was registered under the number plate MP 07 (Gwalior RTO) in the name of Chetan Singh. The recovery has been linked to Lokayukta’s raid on former RTO constable Saurabh Sharma and his associate, Chandan Singh Gaur.

The Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment (SPE) conducted raids at the homes of Sharma and Gaur, uncovering Rs 2.5 crore in cash, along with gold, silver jewelry, and property documents at Sharma’s residence in Arera Colony. The total value of these assets is estimated to surpass Rs 3 crore, as reported by Times of India.

Sharma and Gaur have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with ADG Lokayukta Jaideep Prasad confirming that investigations are still underway. Authorities suspect that the gold and cash discovered in the abandoned vehicle could be linked to the illicit wealth accumulated by the two individuals.Avail benefits up to Rs 1,38,000 on Taisor, Innova, Fortuner, other Toyota cars, here is how
