ChatGPT is down: Some users are unable to access the AI chatbot on mobile and web

ChatGPT is down: The AI chatbot seems to be not responding to some users on both the mobile app and on the web. The issue seemed to have picked up around 12 pm IST today, but it peaked around 3.15 pm IST, according to Downdetector.

According to the website, 88 per cent issues have been reported regarding the ChatGPT web app. Only 8 per cent users have reportedly shared issues with the mobile app, only 3 per cent about the API.

ChatGPT is down: Notably, this issue does not seem to be affecting all ChatGPT users. At the time of writing the story, we wanted to independently verify the news of ChatGPT being down. So we checked that ChatGPT was slow but still responsive on Safari. On Chrome, however, it wasn’t working for a lot of our colleagues. All prompts are showing an “something seems to have gone wrong” error message. Similarly, we also found that the ChatGPT app on iOS seems to be working on 2-3 iPhones we checked on, but the AI chatbot’s app on Android seems to be showing the same error message as the web app.

A lot of X users have also been sharing about ChatGPT being down. Users are mostly taking a crack at how with ChatGPT down, their studies or work are now on pause and they are waiting for the AI chatbot to be back up again.

ChatGPT is down: At the time of writing the story, there was no communication from OpenAI on the cause behind the outage. For now, we don’t even know how big the outage is and how many users it has affected. According to Downdetector, the issue seems to be concentrated in India. However, we could not confirm that with OpenAI. We have reached out to OpenAI, and will update this space as soon as we hear anything about it.
