‘Conspiracies Against India Now Use New Methods, Not Swords’: PM Modi Calls for Unity

At Somnath Swabhiman Parv, Prime Minister targets appeasement politics and warns of active forces working against the nation

Somnath: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, launched a sharp attack on the opposition, warning that the very forces which once opposed the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple are still active in the country. He said that while swords were used in the past, today new methods are being employed to conspire against India.

Addressing a gathering in Somnath, Gujarat, PM Modi said India is home to thousands of ancient sacred sites like Somnath, which symbolize the nation’s strength, resilience, and traditions. However, he added that after Independence, people with a colonial mindset attempted to distance themselves from these symbols and made deliberate efforts to erase their history.

“We know the scale of sacrifices made to protect Somnath,” the Prime Minister said. “The stories of countless heroes are linked to this temple, yet they were never given due importance. Even the history of repeated attacks was ‘whitewashed’ by some historians and political leaders. Religious fanaticism was portrayed merely as ordinary loot, and books were written to hide the truth. But Somnath was not destroyed once—it was demolished again and again.”

PM Modi further stated that if the attacks on the Somnath Temple had been driven solely by economic motives, they would have ended after the first major plunder a thousand years ago. “But that did not happen,” he said. “The sacred idol of Somnath was broken, the structure of the temple was repeatedly altered, and yet we were taught that it was destroyed only for wealth. The real, brutal history of hatred, oppression, and terror was hidden from us.”

In a strong message, the Prime Minister said that no person truly devoted to their faith would ever support such extremist thinking. “However, the contractors of appeasement politics surrendered before radical forces,” he said. “When India broke free from colonial rule and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel pledged to rebuild Somnath, attempts were made to stop him. Objections were even raised when then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad visited Somnath in 1951.”

Calling upon citizens to remain vigilant, PM Modi said, “We must be more cautious of such forces today. We must strengthen ourselves and stay united. Only through unity can we defeat those who are constantly trying to weaken and divide the country.”
