With the onset of winter, the markets are flooded with seasonal vegetables, including the humble Radish (Mooli). Often consumed as a salad or its leaves prepared as a nutritious green, Radish is hailed not just for its taste but also for its profound health benefits.
Yoga Guru and Patanjali Founder, Baba Ramdev, regards Radish as a ‘boon for health,’ claiming its nutrients can treat up to 100 diseases.
In a recent social media video, Ramdev elaborated on the miraculous benefits of Radish and explained how this single vegetable is effective in curing various ailments.
Radish: A Powerhouse of Nutrition Radish is packed with essential nutrients like Vitamin C, Folate, Potassium, Magnesium, and Vitamin B6. It is also an excellent source of Fibre, Antioxidants, and Glucosinolates, which is why it is considered a medicinal vegetable. However, due to its mixed potency (hot and cold), consuming it at night should be avoided, especially by those suffering from cold and cough.
Baba Ramdev on the Benefits of Radish Baba Ramdev asserts that if a person consumes Radish continuously for 2-3 months, they will never fall sick. He highlights that Radish ensures the perfect functioning of crucial internal organs:
- Organ Health: Consumption of Radish keeps the Liver, Kidneys, Intestines, Lungs, Heart, and the entire digestive system in perfect condition.
- Weight Management: Ramdev calls Radish a ‘Fat Cutter,’ which significantly helps in weight control by improving digestion.
- Digestive Relief: It provides relief from gas and acidity.
- Holistic Balance: It helps balance the Vata and Pitta Doshas (humors).
- Disease Prevention: It aids in the prevention of chronic diseases like high BP and Sugar.
- Best Time to Eat: According to Ramdev, eating Radish on an empty stomach in the morning is best for the digestive system. If not possible in the morning, it can be consumed at any time with salt, often paired with Bajra (Millet) Roti.
