Dhoni Big Comment on India’s T20 World Cup Team
Former captain backs Team India for 2026, highlights experience, balance and pressure-handling ability

New Delhi: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed strong confidence in the Indian team’s chances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the side has the right mix of experience, skill, and balance to perform well in high-pressure tournaments.
Dhoni stressed that a team’s real strength lies in how well players handle pressure situations and how clearly their roles are defined. He noted that Indian players are always match-ready—whether with the bat or the ball—giving India a significant edge over their opponents.
Speaking at an event, Dhoni said, “This is one of the most dangerous teams. You know they are always ready—whether batting or bowling. But what does a good team need? Everything. They have experience, and especially in this format, that experience matters a lot. They’ve played under pressure. The players have been in their respective roles for a long time.”
While remaining optimistic, Dhoni pointed out dew as a major factor that can disrupt even the best-laid plans in white-ball cricket. He said dew can heavily influence playing conditions and make the toss extremely important, sometimes leading to an unfair advantage.
“What worries me? I really hate dew. Dew changes a lot of things. When I was playing, that was one thing that genuinely scared me. The toss becomes very important. If we play 10 matches against top teams under neutral conditions, we’ll come out on top most of the time,” Dhoni said.
The former Chennai Super Kings captain also highlighted the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, where one bad day for a few players—or a brilliant performance by an opposition player—can completely change the outcome of a match.
“The problem comes when a few of your players have a bad day and someone from the opposition has an exceptional one. That can happen in T20 cricket. Whether it’s the league stage or the knockout stage, that’s when you need a bit of luck—no injuries, and everyone fulfilling their roles for the team,” Dhoni added.
Dhoni’s remarks underline both confidence and caution, reflecting the fine margins that often decide success in the shortest format of the game.
