Driver Found Dead Inside Car at Mall Basement Parking in East Delhi

New Delhi: Panic spread in East Delhi on Tuesday morning after a man was found dead inside a parked car in the basement parking area of Star City Mall in the Mayur Vihar locality.

According to reports, mall staff noticed a Honda City car that had been parked overnight around 8 am. The vehicle’s windows were closed, and there was no movement inside, which raised suspicion. When the car door was opened, a man was found unconscious inside. Upon closer inspection, it was confirmed that he had died.

Police from Mayur Vihar police station reached the spot immediately after being informed. The body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Officials said that no signs of struggle were found inside the car during the preliminary investigation. The exact cause of death remains unclear at this stage. Authorities are considering multiple possibilities, including suicide or suffocation inside the closed vehicle. However, foul play has not been ruled out. Police stated that clarity will emerge only after the postmortem report is received.

Sources revealed that an office of HDFC Life operates within the mall premises, and the car reportedly belongs to a man named Gaurav, who works there. It is believed that Gaurav had booked a driver online to operate the vehicle, and the deceased was that driver.

Following the incident, security has been tightened around the mall, and police have launched a detailed investigation. Officials are contacting the deceased’s family members and probing whether there was any personal enmity involved. CCTV footage from the parking area is also being examined to determine how long the car had been stationed there and what transpired before the incident.
