Footpaths to Be Built in Crowded Areas of Bihar for Pedestrian Safety, CM Nitish Kumar Issues Directions

Government Plans CCTV Installation and Road Safety Measures to Reduce Accidents

Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to construct footpaths for pedestrians in both rural and urban areas to reduce road accidents. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has issued directions to the Transport Department to implement the initiative.

Sharing the update on X, the Chief Minister stated that Bihar is progressing rapidly, and with rising incomes, the number of two-wheelers and four-wheelers on state roads has increased significantly. However, the growing volume of vehicles has made it difficult for pedestrians to move safely.

He emphasized that walking safely and with dignity on roads is the fundamental right of pedestrians. Keeping road safety standards in mind, the Transport Department has been directed to identify crowded locations in urban areas and construct footpaths at the earliest.

Additionally, instructions have been issued to create zebra crossings at designated spots, and to build foot overbridges, escalators, and underpasses to facilitate pedestrian movement. The government has also directed that both government and private vehicle drivers be given proper training to ensure they remain sensitive to pedestrians’ rights on the roads.

CM Nitish Kumar further stated that accident-prone locations in both rural and urban areas will be identified for the construction of footpaths and installation of CCTV cameras. These measures aim to assess traffic patterns and significantly reduce road accidents.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the initiative would prove highly beneficial for pedestrians across the state and make their daily commute safer and more convenient.
