Guyana’s Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo Arrives in Ayodhya, to Visit Ram Temple Complex
Indian-Origin Leader to Offer Prayers and Review Temple Construction

Ayodhya: Guyana’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday morning as part of his India visit. He landed at Valmiki Airport at 9:40 am by a private aircraft and later proceeded by road to the Ram Mandir complex.
Dr. Jagdeo, who is of Indian origin, is scheduled to offer prayers to Ram Lalla and review the progress of the temple construction. He is expected to spend nearly three hours at the Ram Janmabhoomi premises before departing for Jamnagar in Gujarat by air.
Dr. Jagdeo’s ancestors trace their roots to Pure Thakurain village in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district. During his India visit, he also attended the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi. Upon his arrival in India, he was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
His visit is being viewed as a positive step toward strengthening bilateral ties between India and Guyana, a nation located in South America.
Born on January 23, 1964, Dr. Jagdeo has been serving as Vice President of Guyana since 2020 under President Irfaan Ali’s administration. He previously held the same position from 1997 to 1999 during President Janet Jagan’s tenure. Dr. Jagdeo also served as Guyana’s President from August 11, 1999, to December 3, 2011, after assuming office following Janet Jagan’s resignation due to health reasons.
A member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), Jagdeo served as Finance Minister from 1995 to 1999 and later won elections in 2001 and 2006. He became Guyana’s first and youngest President and stepped down in accordance with the constitutional term limits.
