He Scored A T20 Century, Now We Will See Him In Tests: Ashwin Fires Brutal Dig at Agarkar, Gambhir

Ravichandran Ashwin mocked the Indian selectors and team management over an Indian outcast’s performance in the ongoing Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) as the Indian Test team continues to face a crisis, especially in the batting unit in their transition post the retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
One player who has an incredible record in red-ball cricket over the last few years has been Abhimanyu Easwaran. The Bengal skipper has an average of 47.85 in first-class cricket, having played 109 games and scored 8136 runs with an incredible tally of 27 centuries.
Easwaran has been part of the India-A team for a long period and even led them on numerous occasions. He was first called up to the Indian team in 2021 for the tour of England and has been part of multiple squads, but never got a cap, while several other players debuted ahead of him despite coming into the squad later.
Ashwin Fires Brutal Dig At Gambhir, Agarkar
In what was evidently a brutal dig at Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar, Ashwin pointed at Eashwaran’s lone warrior knock for Bengal in their SMAT clash against Punjab at Hyderabad’s Gymkhana Ground on Sunday (November 30), where he made an unbeaten 133 in 66 balls while his team was chasing 311 and no other player in the top nine made more than nine runs.
“I’m excited about another person. The Test incumbent player who has always been spoken about, Abhimanyu Easwaran. Abhimanyu Easwaran scored a hundred in T20 also now. Now we can get to see him for sure now. Given that he has now scored runs in T20, for sure we will get to see him in the Test team now,” said Ashwin in a video on his Youtube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat.’
The comments from Ashwin come at a time when India’s Test selections have faced criticism, with several top performers in the Ranji Trophy being ignored.
Ravi Ashwin – Abhimanyu Easwaran scored a century in T20 cricket, so now we might see him in test cricket.

However, Easwaran’s case is a different one as he has been picked by selectors in the past, including Agarkar, who named him in the squad for the tour of Australia and England, but he failed to earn the trust of the head coach Gambhir and the captains Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill.
Similarly, in 2021, Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli did not select him in the playing XI in England, while Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav were called in as replacements after an injury to Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul opened the batting after Mayank Agarwal’s concussion. Similarly, Easwaran replaced Rohit Sharma in the squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, but then head coach Rahul Dravid opted for stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Gill as the opening pair.
Easwaran was later dropped from the team for the home series against West Indies and South Africa after the team’s return from England.
