Jamie Smith Slams Quick Century On Day 3, Breaks Ben Duckett’s Record To Create History vs India
Jamie Smith slammed a quick century in the first session on the third day of the 2nd Test against India in Birmingham. The England wicketkeeper-batsman batted for less than a session.
He came out to bat after England lost 2 quick wickets in the first session of the play. Joe Root and Ben Stokes departed off back-to-back deliveries in the 22nd over. He completed his century off just 81 balls. Jamie created history and broke Ben Duckett’s record after he breached the three-figure mark in the final over before lunch.
Jamie now holds the record for being the quickest England batsman to score a Test century against India. The record previously belonged to Ben Duckett. The left-handed batsman slammed an 88-ball ton against India in Rajkot in 2024. He had broken Graham Gooch’s record, who slammed a 95-ball ton at Lord’s
Jamie batted quickly throughout the session and didn’t let India dominate the proceedings after losing back-to-back wickets. He and Harry Brook have added more than 200 runs for the sixth wicket.
Brook also completed his century. He reached the three-figure mark in 137 balls. Courtesy of their partnership, England need less than 100 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Indian bowlers struggle again
The Indian bowlers have once again struggled to take wickets regularly. Akash Deep, who scalped 2 wickets in the final session on day 1, hasn’t taken a wicket on the second day so far.
Siraj scalped 2 wickets early in the first session but hasn’t managed a wicket since then. Prasidh Krishna has struggled with the ball and leaked 70 runs in 11 overs. India’s decision to play 2 spinners has proven to be wrong so far and both of them are wicketless. Both of them played their parts with the bat. Jadeja scored a brilliant 89 while Sundar scored 42 off 103 balls.
