Ladki Bahin Yojana Payment Yet to Be Credited: Here’s Why the Delay
Thousands of beneficiaries in Maharashtra await monthly assistance amid eKYC checks and election-related restrictions

Mumbai: Thousands of women under Maharashtra’s Ladki Bahin Yojana are still waiting for their monthly payments. The scheme provides ₹1,500 per month to eligible women. While many beneficiaries did not receive the December payment, there has been no official update so far regarding the January instalment either.
This delay has increased anxiety among beneficiaries who depend on this amount for their day-to-day needs.
eKYC Made Mandatory
To ensure that benefits continue to reach only genuine beneficiaries, the government has made eKYC mandatory. To facilitate wider compliance, the deadline has been extended till December 31, 2025.
Maharashtra’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Aditi Tatkare, said eKYC is essential to ensure that payments are credited only to legitimate beneficiaries. However, despite the deadline extension, the next instalment has not yet been released.
Is the Delay Due to Elections?
One of the major reasons being discussed for the delay is the BMC elections. Voting is scheduled to be held on January 15 across 29 municipal areas, including Mumbai.
According to some reports, since the Model Code of Conduct is in force, the government is avoiding large-scale fund transfers. The scheme had earlier helped the government during elections, but instances of misuse were later detected, prompting the introduction of mandatory eKYC.
Finance Department Clearance Still Pending
Reports also suggest that the December payment is still awaiting approval from the state Finance Department. Due to election-related restrictions, this clearance may not be granted before January 15.
There is also a possibility that the government may release two months’ payments together, meaning beneficiaries could receive ₹3,000 covering both December and January. BJP leader Tejasvi Ghosalkar has claimed that the amount may be credited on January 14.
Beneficiaries are advised to complete their eKYC and stay alert for official announcements regarding the payment schedule.
