Maruti Suzuki Dzire Becomes India’s First Sedan with 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

New Delhi, June 11, 2025: In a significant milestone for vehicle safety in India, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the first sedan in the country to receive a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP).

The rating was presented by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, to Maruti Suzuki India Limited, marking a new benchmark for mass-market car safety in the country.

The certification underscores the Indian government’s push for safer vehicles and comes as Maruti Suzuki continues to expand its commitment to safety features across its lineup. The automaker has announced that by the end of this year, all its passenger vehicles-across all variants-will come equipped with six airbags as standard. Currently, models such as the Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto already feature six airbags in every variant.

In addition, Maruti Suzuki claims to offer the widest portfolio of vehicles equipped with Electronic Stability Program+ (ESPĀ®) as standard-across all 18 models-well ahead of any regulatory mandate.

Congratulating Maruti Suzuki, Minister Gadkari said, “It gives me immense pride to see Made-in-India high-volume mainstream cars achieve exemplary safety ratings. The 5-star rating for the Dzire is a big step toward safer roads and will raise safety awareness among consumers. I’m also glad to see Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to offering six airbags across all vehicle segments-from entry-level hatchbacks to premium SUVs.”

The Minister urged all road users-whether pedestrians or vehicle owners-to take responsibility for safety by obeying traffic laws and using seat belts.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Bharat NCAP brings global-grade safety benchmarks to Indian customers. We’re proud to lead with the Dzire’s 5-star rating and reaffirm our commitment to offering safety technologies like six airbags and ESPĀ® across our lineup.”

Both the Dzire and the New Age Baleno-which received a 4-star Bharat NCAP rating-are built on Suzuki’s fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and feature a host of advanced safety technologies, including ABS with EBD, 360-degree cameras, seatbelt reminders for all occupants, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, hill hold assist, and reverse parking sensors and cameras.

With these achievements, Maruti Suzuki reinforces its stance as not just India’s largest carmaker, but now a safety-first brand setting new industry standards.
