Not DC Or KKR! Mohammed Shami’s Next Destination For IPL 2026 All But Confirmed
Not DC Or KKR! As the IPL retention window is all set to be over on November 15 (Saturday), one of the players that everyone would have their eyes on is Mohammed Shami.
He was bought by a whopping Rs 10 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 mega auction, but had a pretty poor season. Hence, there were rumours that SRH were all but likely to release him. Several teams were vying for his signature, with franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) rumoured to be interested in a trade deal. However, it looks like Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have won the race.
LSG all but confirmed Mohammed Shami’s arrival to their franchise through their latest post on their X account. LSG posted a picture of the iconic set of deliveries which Shami bowled to Ben Stokes, before finally getting him out during the ODI World Cup 2023 match between India and England in the Group Stage. This match happened at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow, the franchise’s home ground.
However, they did not post Shami’s image, and just gave a tease to the fans for his impending arrival.

Did Shubman Gill Signal End Of Shami’s Test Career?
In the pre-match press conference before the first Test in Kolkata, Shubman Gill said that even though there are not many bowlers like Mohammed Shami’s quality, bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna are above him in the pecking order. He also hinted that India are looking towards the future. He thus might have hinted
“There aren’t many bowlers of Shami bhai’s quality. But when you look at the performances of others – guys like Akash Deep and Prasidh – and also what Siraj and Bumrah have done for us, it becomes a tough call,” he said.
“It’s never easy when someone like Shami bhai has to miss out, but at the same time, we have to plan ahead,” the Indian Test captain added.
“As for fitness and selection matters, the selectors would be in a better position to give a clear answer on that,” he further said.
