Jasprit Bumrah ko lene ke liye bhi akal hona chahiye na – Ravi Shastri takes a dig at Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar

Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri shared his thoughts on the ongoing discussion about ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s workload. The cricketer-turned-commentator took a dig at head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, saying that one needs to have the brains to properly utilize Bumrah.
Bumrah, known for his ability to shift games even from difficult positions, is one of India’s most valuable players. He played only three Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, and the debate surrounding his workload has intensified. The pacer was rested from the ODI series against South Africa.
Jasprit Bumrah Ko Lene Ke Liye Bhi Akal Hona Chahiye Na – Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri said that the team management and selectors must be smart about Jasprit Bumrah’s workload. He questioned past decisions that initially framed Bumrah as mainly a white-ball bowler.
“Bumrah is a dada bowler. Bumrah ko lene ke liye bhi akal hona chahiye na. (For utilizing Bumrah, you need to have brains). You made him a white-ball bowler, so how has he become a red-ball bowler?” said Shastri on Prabhat Khabar.
Shastri played a major part in Bumrah’s Test debut during his coaching tenure. Before Bumrah’s red-ball debut, many believed his unorthodox action was suited only for white-ball formats and wouldn’t hold up in Test matches. However, Bumrah proved those doubts wrong with his performances.
Jasprit Bumrah Set to Return for South Africa T20Is
India’s management had planned in advance for Jasprit Bumrah to play only three Tests against England. Following that series, Bumrah has been available for nearly every assignment except the ODI series against Australia and South Africa.
He has played all four home Tests against the West Indies and South Africa, as well as the Asia Cup and the T20Is against Australia. After a short break following a modest Test outing in South Africa, he is set to return for the five-match T20I series against the Proteas starting December 9.
The first T20I will be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Notably, India will kickstart their final preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj Rested for South Africa ODIs
The selectors picked a young and inexperienced pace attack featuring Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna for the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were rested after the 0-2 Test series defeat, while Hardik Pandya is still recovering from injury.
The seamers reduced South Africa to 11-3 in the first ODI, but they couldn’t maintain control on batting-friendly pitches under heavy dew. Their struggles continued in the second ODI, where the trio conceded 209 runs in 28.2 overs as South Africa successfully chased 359.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj returned to domestic cricket, taking 1-15 in Hyderabad’s win over Jammu and Kashmir at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
