India is currently importing oil from 40 countries. In 2014, there were 14 crore Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections and now the number has now reached 31 crore, Minister Puri said. Ujjwala Yojana claims that those who have a connection cost only Rs 5 per day. This cost is only Rs 14 for other users.
However, in the FY25, oil companies suffered a loss of Rs 41,338 crore. As a solution to this, the Center has increased the excise duty. However, petrol and diesel prices are likely to fall again if crude oil prices fall in the future. This can provide some relief to consumers.
