Pichai: AI Is the Biggest Platform Shift of Our Lives; Vizag Emerging as a Global AI Hub

New Delhi, February 19: On the fourth day of the AI-India Impact Summit in the national capital, global tech leaders discussed artificial intelligence as a transformative technology and India’s pivotal role in its adoption and expansion.

Addressing the summit, Sundar Pichai said that artificial intelligence demonstrates what is possible when people dare to dream big, calling it “the biggest platform shift of our lives.” He emphasized India’s rising influence in the global AI ecosystem and highlighted Visakhapatnam (Vizag) as an emerging global AI hub.

Speaking at the AI-India Impact Summit, Pichai noted that it was inspiring to see Visakhapatnam—where Google has made significant investments—transforming into a major center for artificial intelligence as part of the company’s long-term commitment to India.

He said, “Through Visakhapatnam, or Vizag, I remember it as a quiet coastal city full of potential. Today, Google is building a full-stack AI hub there as part of our USD 15 billion infrastructure investment in India. Once completed, this hub will feature gigawatt-scale computing capacity and a new international subsea cable gateway, delivering jobs and cutting-edge AI capabilities to people and businesses across India. When I first visited by train, I never imagined Vizag would become a global AI hub.”

Pichai stressed that AI represents a massive technological shift with the potential to accelerate progress across sectors and help emerging economies leapfrog legacy limitations.

He added, “AI shows what is possible when humans dream big. No technology has inspired me to dream bigger than AI. It is the biggest platform shift of our lifetimes. We stand on the brink of extraordinary progress and breakthroughs that can help emerging economies overcome historical constraints. But that outcome is neither guaranteed nor automatic.”
