PM Modi Leads Shaurya Yatra Under Somnath Swabhiman Parv
Ceremonial procession honors those who sacrificed their lives to protect the Somnath Temple

Somnath (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday led the ‘Shaurya Yatra’, a ceremonial procession organised to honour those who laid down their lives while protecting the Somnath Temple in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district.
Held as part of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, the procession featured a grand march of 108 horses, symbolising courage, valour, and sacrifice. Large numbers of devotees and local residents lined both sides of the route to welcome the Prime Minister.
Standing on a specially designed vehicle, PM Modi, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, greeted the crowds during the nearly one-kilometre-long procession.
Following the yatra, the Prime Minister was scheduled to offer prayers at the Somnath Temple and participate in a public programme organised on the occasion of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv.
The event aims to remember and honour the countless citizens of India who sacrificed their lives to protect the Somnath Temple—an enduring source of inspiration for the cultural consciousness of future generations.
The programme is being held to mark 1,000 years since the attack on the Somnath Temple by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026.
In a statement, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said that despite repeated attempts to destroy it over the centuries, the Somnath Temple today stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, faith, and national pride, owing to the collective resolve and efforts to restore it to its ancient glory.
