PM Modi Shares Sanskrit Subhashita, Calls Laughter the Best Medicine

New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared an inspiring message rooted in ancient Indian wisdom, highlighting laughter as the best medicine and underscoring its importance for health and happiness.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit subhashita and wrote:
“औषधेष्वपि सर्वेषु हास्यं श्रेष्ठं वदन्ति ह।
स्वाधीनं सुलभं चैवारोग्यानन्दविवर्धनम्।।”

The message of the verse conveys that among all medicines, laughter is considered the best remedy, as it is freely and easily available and enhances both health and joy. A 53-second video accompanying the post explains the meaning of the Sanskrit verse in both Hindi and English.

Since December 2025, Prime Minister Modi has been regularly sharing Sanskrit subhashitas (inspirational verses) as part of an effort to connect India’s timeless traditional knowledge with modern policymaking and public discourse. He frequently includes such verses in his speeches, during Mann Ki Baat, and through social media posts.

By presenting Sanskrit subhashitas in the public domain, the Prime Minister is consciously linking contemporary governance with India’s civilisational wisdom. These ancient verses are being used to explain modern priorities such as development, sustainability, gender justice, ethical leadership, and national responsibility.

On December 8, PM Modi also highlighted the enduring relevance of Sanskrit in India’s cultural and spiritual life. He referred to the daily broadcast of Sanskrit subhashitas in Doordarshan’s Suprabhatam programme, noting that every morning a Sanskrit verse is presented, weaving together values and culture.
