Rishabh Pant arrives in India from Sydney, meets fans at airport

India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was spotted at Delhi Airport on Tuesday night, January 7, arriving from Sydney after the conclusion of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

While most Indian team members left Australia on Wednesday, January 8, Pant returned a day earlier, sparking excitement among fans at the airport.Pant was seen warmly greeting fans, signing autographs, and clicking selfies, showcasing his ever-approachable personality. His return comes after a challenging Test series in Australia, where India suffered a disappointing 1-3 defeat.

The series began positively for India with a commanding 295-run victory in the first Test in Perth. However, their fortunes took a downturn in the subsequent matches. A 10-wicket loss in the second Test and a rain-affected draw in Brisbane left the series evenly poised. India fought hard in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne but fell short on the final day, losing with just 12 overs to spare. In the final Test in Sydney, Australia dominated, sealing a six-wicket victory to win the series 3-1.

With this win, Australia secured a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, alongside South Africa. This marks the first time India has failed to qualify for the prestigious summit clash.

Rishabh Pant’s individual performance in the BGT was underwhelming. The 27-year-old displayed glimpses of his explosive batting but struggled for consistency. His standout moment came during India’s second innings in the Sydney Test, where he smashed a fiery 50 off just 29 balls, eventually scoring 61 runs from 33 deliveries. His aggressive knock included six fours and four sixes, providing fans a brief reminder of his potential.

Across the series, Pant accumulated 255 runs in nine innings, averaging 28.33 with one half-century. His overall Test career now boasts 2,948 runs in 43 matches at an average of 42.11, including six centuries and 15 fifties.

India will now shift focus to their home series against England, featuring five T20Is and three ODIs, as part of preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy. Fans are eager to see if Pant makes the squad, hoping for a return to his best form.
