South Africa Greats BLASTED for Ignoring Women’s World Cup Final As Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar Win Hearts
India created history, as they ended 47-year-wait to win the Women’s World Cup in 2025, when they beat South Africa in a tense final at the DY Patil International Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
This was indeed a watershed moment in Indian cricket, and some of the biggest men’s legends from the country came out in supporting them. Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma were in attendance, with the latter even getting emotional after Harmanpreet Kaur’s team lifted the coveted title. However, there were no South Africa legends present to cheer the girls.
This no-show of any legends from South Africa including the likes of AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and so on was heavily criticized by South African actress Thanja Vuur in a video on her Instagram account. She even praised India’s fandom towards their women cricketers, and also lauded Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and VVS Laxman for visiting the team.
What Did Thanja Vuur Say?
“India, you win this World Cup. Your congratulations is coming. Just give me a few minutes because first I’m gonna tell you why. The reason is you. Sachin Tendulkar Rohit Sharma, even VVS Laxman, were there to support you. Who the hell showed up from South Africa? Hm? These ex-cricket players that you love from South Africa, the men… where are they? Oh, this event was not high-profile enough for them. Nobody showed up. I don’t think our minister of sport was there,” Thanja Vuur said in the video, with the caption “Indian win because their people care”, she said.
“The girls worked so hard. They did so well. But what does it feel like when none of these people show up? Did they just think we were gonna lose? Is that the message they’re sending? You guys live and breathe this sport… It is breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You are the winners of this World Cup. And you know what? You deserve it,” she added.
