Spain Claims US Bases Not Used for Iran Attack
Madrid Asserts Full Sovereign Control Over Military Facilities

Spain: The Spanish government clarified on Monday that the United States did not use its military bases in Spain to carry out attacks against Iran and will not do so in the future. Madrid emphasized that it maintains full sovereign control over bases located on its territory.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, in an interview with El Diario, stated that the Rota and Morón de la Frontera bases “are not being used for operations related to the Middle East conflict,” and that Spain would not authorize any such deployment in the future. He added, “Bases under Spanish sovereignty will only be used in accordance with agreements with the United States or in compliance with the Charter of the United Nations.”
Albares reiterated that while the bases are for joint use, ultimate control rests with Spain. He also clarified that the recent US strikes were “unilateral actions” and that Spain was not given prior notification.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also criticized the American and Israeli attacks, warning that such actions could make the international order more uncertain and destabilizing.
The foreign minister cautioned that escalating tensions could lead to unforeseen consequences such as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, rising oil prices, and global economic instability. He stressed the urgent need for peace and a diplomatic resolution in the region.
