The World is Watching India’s Democracy, Bihar Polls an Example: Political Heat Rises After PM’s Speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp and pointed message to the Opposition on the very first day of the Winter Session. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on Monday, he stated that for the sake of the nation’s progress, the Opposition must use Parliament as a platform for constructive discussion, not convert it into a political theatre .

The Prime Minister clearly stated, “This Winter Session is not a mere custom. It will further energize our efforts to take the country forward at a fast pace.” He emphasized that Parliament’s conduct should reflect a message of accountability to the nation.

‘The World is Watching India’s Democracy’

Modi remarked that not only the people of India but also the international community is keenly watching the process of strengthening India’s democracy and economy. Referring to the Bihar elections, he said the widespread participation of voters-especially the rise in women’s votes-has highlighted India’s democratic strength. Parliament shares the responsibility of maintaining this trust.

The Jab: ‘Failure to Accept Defeat Should Not Cause Disruption’

In a strong tone, Modi commented on the Opposition, saying, “Some are afflicted by defeat. The inability to digest defeat should not become a reason for disruption. Just as victory should not turn into arrogance, defeat should not be turned into an excuse.”

The Prime Minister claimed that just one or two statements from the Opposition make it clear they are still unable to accept the election results. For those who seek to influence the session with protest or theatrics, Modi’s message was, “There are many places for drama. But the real issue is the result of work. Go speak where you are about to face defeat.”

Key Bills Lined Up for Day One

The Winter Session, beginning at 11 AM, will start with condolences for the departed. Following this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to introduce several important bills in the Lok Sabha, including the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Health Security and National Security Cess Bill, 2025, and the Manipur GST (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The government plans to introduce a total of 13 bills this session. Besides this, issues such as electoral roll reform (SIR), national security in light of the Delhi blasts, labour codes, and other crucial matters are likely to make the session heated. In the Prime Minister’s words, this session “will create a clear reflection of the country’s future vision and what Parliament intends to do for the nation.”
