Tiguan R-Line: Volkswagen’s premium bet for India

Tiguan R-Line:Volkswagen India is lining up two important models — Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI. While pre-bookings have opened for the Tiguan R-Line, it will be introduced on April 14. The carmaker has also started accepting customer interest for the Golf GTI, which will be launched later.
Although Volkswagen’s domestic volumes have been underwhelming, there has been a growth over the past few years with the introduction of new models like the Virtus and the Taigun.

Since both Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI are completely built-up (CBU) models with limited units assigned for the Indian market, we do not expect them to be volume churners for Volkswagen. We expect the Tiguan R-Line price in India to be between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

At the heart of the Tiguan R-Line is a 2.0-litre TSI EVO petrol engine delivering 204PS of maximum power and 320Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 7-Speed DSG transmission. The SUV has 4MOTION all-wheel drive capability as standard.
The Tiguan R-Line measures 4,539mm in length, 1,859mm in width and 1,656mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,680mm long.
