Varun Chakravarthy to be picked for Champions Trophy ahead of Jadeja: Aakash Chopra

Former India cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra feels wrist spinner Varun Chakravarthy will be picked over Ravindra Jadeja for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Chakravarthy has been in sensational form ever since his comeback to the Indian team in September 2024.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Tamil Nadu spinner has been amongst the wickets as well, being the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament so far, having scalped 18 wickets from six innings at an average of 12.16. Commenting on his marvellous performances, Chopra praised the India spinner for his incredible return to form.

“Varun Chakaravarthy is picking up wickets one after the other. He has done well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy also. He took a five-wicket haul against Rajasthan and has been continuously doing well. Since he has returned to the Indian T20I team, he has been picking up wickets every single time,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Further speaking ahead, the former batter said that Chakravarthy could make it to the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 squad ahead of the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

“The rumour market is hot, the Indian cricket atmosphere has become like that as we get a lot of source-based news and a few of them come true, that Varun Chakaravarthy could be picked for the Champions Trophy. If he gets picked, who will go out – Ravindra Jadeja. That’s what I have been hearing,” Chopra added.

Champions Trophy squad to be announced soon

Since his comeback to the Indian T20I side in October 2024, Chakravarthy has scalped 17 wickets from seven innings at an average of 12.41 with one five-wicket haul. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja’s place in the limited-overs side has come under question after his poor show in the ODI World Cup 2023 knockouts and the T20 World Cup 2024.

Hence, there are question marks on his place in the limited-overs team. It remains to be seen whether the selection committee continues to show faith in Jadeja or will they give a chance to new faces for the mega event.Australian Open: Stefanos Tsitsipas hopes ‘home’ return will bring best out of him
