Vigilance Bureau Nabs Two Officials Red-Handed While Taking Bribes in Bihar

Patna: The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau achieved two major successes on Tuesday after arresting a survey official in Supaul district and a Block Supply Officer in Samastipur district for allegedly accepting bribes.

According to a bureau official, Vikram Kumar Ram, a survey amin posted in the Morena circle of Supaul district, was caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 as a bribe. The action followed a complaint filed at the bureau headquarters by Jagnarayana Yadav, a resident of Khorama village under Morena police station area. In his complaint, Yadav alleged that the survey amin had demanded money to clear pending land survey-related work.

After verification, the allegations were found to be true. Subsequently, a raiding team was formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar. Acting on the tip-off, the team arrested Vikram Kumar Ram from his rented residence in Ward No. 1 of Nirmali Nagar Panchayat while he was accepting the bribe amount.

In a separate operation, another bureau team arrested Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, the Block Supply Officer of Ujiarpur in Samastipur district, while allegedly accepting ₹10,000 as a bribe. He was accused of demanding money in exchange for increasing additional foodgrain allocation under the Public Distribution System (PDS). After confirming the complaint’s authenticity, a raiding team was constituted and arrested him from his residence.

FIRs in both cases have been registered at the vigilance police station. The accused officials are currently being interrogated and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court.

Officials stated that the Vigilance Investigation Bureau has intensified its anti-corruption drive this year. So far, it has arrested 17 accused individuals red-handed and recovered more than ₹7 lakh in bribe money.
