Vince Zampella Crash :Newly surfaced video shows the dramatic moments leading up to the fatal crash that killed acclaimed video game designer Vince Zampella on Sunday afternoon in Southern California.
Zampella, the co-creator of the Call of Duty franchise, died after the Ferrari he was driving slammed into a concrete barrier on Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains north of Los Angeles.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash occurred around 12:45 PM as the southbound Ferrari exited a tunnel on the winding two-lane road. The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a concrete barrier, and burst into flames. Zampella became trapped in the burning car and died at the scene. A passenger was ejected during the crash and later died at a hospital. Authorities have not released the passenger’s identity.

Investigators said the cause of the crash remains unknown. A witness-provided video shared with authorities shows the red 2026 Ferrari 296 GTS slamming into the barrier immediately after exiting the tunnel. The high-performance, mid-engine sports car is powered by a hybrid twin-turbo V-6 capable of more than 819 horsepower.

He was the former CEO of Infinity Ward, the studio behind Call of Duty, and later co-founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010. Respawn, acquired by EA in 2017, is known for hit titles including Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Zampella also led EA’s Playa Vista-based studio, responsible for the Battlefield franchise.
In a statement, Electronic Arts described Zampella’s death as an “unimaginable loss,” calling his influence on the video game industry “profound and far-reaching.” The company said his work helped shape modern interactive entertainment and inspired millions of players and developers worldwide.
