Youth Congress Protests in Shimla Over AI Summit and RDG Withdrawal

Shimla: The Himachal Youth Congress staged a protest in the state capital on Sunday against the ongoing AI Summit and the alleged discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) by the central government. During the demonstration, party workers also attempted to burn an effigy of the Prime Minister, but the police intervened and foiled the attempt after a brief scuffle.
According to reports, the protest was organized in Shimla by the state unit of the Indian Youth Congress. As per the planned strategy, party workers began their march from Rajiv Bhawan, the state headquarters, under the leadership of state Youth Congress President Chhatar Singh. National General Secretary and in-charge of state affairs, Shesh Narayan Ojha, was also prominently present during the protest.
Raising slogans against the central government, the protesters marched a short distance from the headquarters and brought out an effigy of the Prime Minister. They allegedly poured petrol on the effigy in preparation to set it ablaze. However, police personnel on duty swiftly intervened and seized the effigy from the demonstrators.
Eyewitnesses said that a brief scuffle ensued between the police and Youth Congress workers, lasting for more than five minutes, as both sides struggled over the effigy. Despite repeated attempts by the protesters, the police successfully prevented the effigy from being burned.
Addressing the gathering, Shesh Narayan Ojha stated that the Youth Congress stands in solidarity with those who had participated in peaceful protests at the AI Summit.
