Ukraine Hopes Upcoming US–Russia–Ukraine Meeting Will Be “Truly Productive”

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday (local time) held discussions with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner ahead of the upcoming trilateral meetings scheduled to take place in Geneva. Zelensky expressed hope that the peace talks would prove to be “truly productive.”
According to Russian news agency TASS, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that trilateral meetings between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States will be held in Geneva on February 17–18.
In a post, Zelensky said, “Ahead of the trilateral meetings in Geneva, I spoke with President Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. We expect these meetings to be highly productive. We also discussed certain developments following the meetings in Abu Dhabi. Not everything can be shared over the phone, and our negotiation team will present Ukraine’s position next week.”
Zelensky also revealed that he discussed the impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“We greatly appreciate that the United States continues to maintain a constructive approach and is ready to help save lives. I thank President Trump, his team, and the people of the United States for their support,” Zelensky stated.
In a separate post on X, the Ukrainian President said he briefed Rubio on the frontline situation, ongoing Russian attacks, and their impact on Ukraine’s energy system. “During my meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio (@SecRubio), I informed him about the situation at the front, Russian strikes, and the consequences of attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. We discussed how to help save lives during the winter cold and strengthen Ukraine’s resilience. We also held detailed discussions on the diplomatic process and the trilateral meetings. It is extremely important that the Geneva talks are productive, and I am grateful for the United States’ constructive approach. We also discussed the sequence of steps. Progress on security guarantees and economic recovery is essential,” Zelensky wrote.
Earlier, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine held trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in January 2026.
According to TASS, the Russian delegation for the upcoming Geneva round will be led by Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
