Maruti Suzuki To Launch 2 New SUVs In India

Maruti Suzuki, a dominant force in India’s automotive sector, has exciting news for car enthusiasts. The manufacturer is gearing up to introduce its first-ever electric vehicle, the eVitara, to the Indian market.

This vehicle, which has already made waves at its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo in New Delhi, is part of Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious plans for the year. Alongside the eVitara, the company has announced the launch of another SUV slated for 2025, believed to be a seven-seater variant of the currently available Grand Vitara.

The anticipation for Maruti Suzuki’s eVitara is palpable, as the vehicle has started appearing in showrooms and is on display at Nexa outlets for prospective buyers to explore. Scheduled for an official launch in September 2025, the eVitara is set to compete with other front-wheel-drive electric hatchbacks, including the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and MG ZS EV. Expected to be priced between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (Ex-showroom), the eVitara aims to carve out its niche in the burgeoning electric vehicle market in India.

Maruti Suzuki Expands Its SUV Portfolio

Further broadening its portfolio, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed the introduction of a second SUV by the end of 2025. While specific details about this vehicle remain under wraps, it’s speculated to be a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara. Test mules of what is believed to be this SUV have been spotted, showcasing a vehicle that stands out with a distinct design from both the front and rear, despite the camouflage.

Maruti Suzuki’s roadmap doesn’t just stop at launching two SUVs by 2025’s close. The company is also focusing on enhancing its global footprint and expects to see a significant boost in exports, targeting a 20% increase. This comes in light of a modest 2% year-on-year domestic growth, with the automaker setting its sights on an impressive comeback by the next fiscal year.

Production and Future Plans

Regarding production, Maruti Suzuki has shared some projections for the eVitara, aiming for a volume of 70,000 units in the current year. A significant portion of these units is intended for export markets, leaving a limited number for Indian consumers. Post the eVitara’s launch in September, the company plans to introduce its second SUV a few months later, rounding off a pivotal year.

In addition to these launches, Maruti Suzuki is exploring the electric vehicle space more broadly. Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, the company is considering the production of electric ambulances and is advocating for tax reforms for small cars. Also in the pipeline is the development of a small hybrid vehicle, signaling Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to diversifying its offerings and reclaiming its dominant market share in India.
