‘Not Going To Get Uncle Aamir’s Money’: Actor Imran Khan Opens Up On ‘Worsening’ Finances

Imran Khan, who shot to overnight fame with his 2008 debut Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na opposite Genelia D’Souza, has opened up about the highs and lows of his career, and life away from the spotlight, in a rare and candid interview.
Speaking on the Unfiltered with Samdish podcast, the actor said that while the success of his debut film catapulted him into the league of Bollywood’s rising stars, the momentum faded quickly; and so did the work. Imran admitted that although his fee increased after his first hit, the perception that he had it easy because of his family name was far from the truth.
Addressing the “nepokid” label directly, the actor said people often assumed that being Aamir Khan’s nephew guaranteed him an easy ride in the film industry. He explained that the reality of his life was very different from what people imagined, adding that family ties do not automatically translate into opportunities, stardom or wealth.
“My uncle Aamir is a movie star. He’s my mom’s cousin brother… that’s not my money, that’s not coming to me,” he said.
Imran also questioned the wide pay gap within the industry, referring to the hefty fees commanded by top stars including Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor, while many others struggle to find fairly paid work.
The actor, who has been largely away from films for over a decade, spoke frankly about the financial strain that followed his retreat from the limelight. The past ten years have also seen major personal upheavals, including his separation from wife Avantika Malik.
With little to no work during this period, Imran said his finances took a hit, but thoughtful planning has allowed him to stay afloat. Not every life decision, he added, should be made purely on calculation. Some choices must be made for your own peace and happiness, he said.
