Jharkhand Schools Closed: Classes Up To 8 Suspended Till Jan 13 Amid Severe Cold

Jharkhand Schools: In light of the intensifying cold wave, all schools up to Class 8 across Jharkhand will remain closed from January 7 to 13, as per an order issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy on Saturday.The directive applies to all government, non-government-aided, minority and private schools.

Classes 9 to 12, along with all residential schools, will operate as usual, according to the issued order. However, teachers in government schools are required to attend regularly during this period to carry out administrative tasks, including U-DISE Plus 2024-25 data entry, Apaar ID creation and household surveys.

Additionally, amid declining temperatures in the state, residents have urged their respective district administrations to adjust school timings, citing the difficulties faced by children attending morning classes in severe cold.

Jharkhand experienced severe cold, with temperatures dropping below 6 degrees Celsius in several areas. The lowest recorded temperature was 5.3 degrees Celsius in Khunti, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Dry weather prevailed across the state over the past 24 hours.

The IMD noted variations in temperature, with below-normal departures in some areas and above-normal readings in isolated pockets. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected in the next 24 hours, but a gradual rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius is anticipated over the following three days.

Sunday’s forecast includes shallow to moderate fog in the morning and partly cloudy skies later. Similar conditions are expected on January 6, 7, 8 and 9, with foggy mornings transitioning to partly cloudy skies.
