Pahalgam Terror Attack: After the Pahalgam attack, India has taken decisive action against Pakistan, which includes Indus Water Treaty suspension, visa cancellation, trade ban and diplomatic expulsion.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India announced strong diplomatic and structural steps against Pakistan late on Tuesday night. The latest information received from the Foreign Ministry’s briefing and government sources is as follows:
India suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 with immediate effect. The Jal Shakti Ministry has issued instructions to the Bhakra-Beas Management Board and the Krishi Vidyut Dam Project to stop excess water and divert it towards the western passes. The tender process for two hydropower projects in the Chenab Valley will be expedited in the coming two weeks.

After the Wagah-Attari border was sealed, ticket booking of Delhi-Lahore bus and Samjhauta Express has also been cancelled. The Railway Board has clarified that no passenger or goods train will cross the Indo-Pak border until further orders come.
3. SAARC visas of all Pakistani nationals cancelled; Home Ministry has asked states to appoint nodal officers to monitor compliance with the May 1 deadline. Separate counters are being set up for the exit of Pakistani nationals at all international airports in northwestern states.
4. Three military assistants of the Pak High Commission and two ISI linked officials posted in the Delhi embassy were asked to leave the country within 48 hours on the basis of evidence of illegal activities. India deployed a special aircraft to bring back its military assistant and five support personnel from Islamabad, which will reach New Delhi by Wednesday morning.
5. The maximum staff strength of the Indian and Pakistani High Commissions has been capped at 30 each. The additional 25 Pakistani and 22 Indian staff will leave the country in 7 days.
6. The Finance Ministry has withdrawn all trade concessions given to Pakistan. 200% customs duty was re-imposed and export of cotton, sugar and cement to Pakistan was banned.
Temporary halt on LOC trade
7. The Security Import-Export Council has also temporarily stopped the LOC Trade Facility (Srinagar-Mangal). The closure of the Kashmir Valley-Muzaffarabad truck route will affect informal trade worth Rs 1,500 crore annually.
8. The National Security Advisor has finalised options for pre-emptive strikes on launch-pads across the border after conducting a strategic review with the Army, Air Force and Navy chiefs. Artillery units in border areas have received instructions for “no warning, full response”.
9. The Ministry of External Affairs has issued an official demarche to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and G-20 partners seeking support for India’s action. France and Australia have publicly condemned the attack and supported India’s rights.
10. The Home Ministry has issued instructions to keep the nearest relief camps ready for the villagers living on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
The government has made it clear that these steps send a message of “no tolerance” to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Further action will depend on Pakistan’s stance and international response. The 17 soldiers martyred in the Pahalgam attack will be given a final farewell with national honours on Wednesday. The Prime Minister said, “The security of the nation is supreme; every attack demands a response and India will respond.”
