Hyderabad: Car dealers in the city anticipate a strong increase in sales in the days ahead after the State government announced a 100% exemption from road tax and registration costs for all EVs in the state. According to them, the action encourages more people to choose electric vehicles.
The new EV regulation, which goes into effect on November 18, attempts to persuade people to choose environmentally friendly transportation. There would be no cap on the total number of registered automobiles under the new policy. It will remain in effect for the first two years, or until December 31, 2026.
The owner of Pranavi Motors, an authorized car dealer, Prashanth Kumar, claimed that the government had made the correct decision at the appropriate moment. In light of the future, it is necessary to raise awareness and persuade people to purchase electric vehicles.

“A total cost reduction of 5% would result from the road tax and registration fees for EVs being waived. The client will gain from this and be more inclined to purchase the cars,” Prashanth stated. “By the latest decision, we are expecting an increase of between 15 per cent and 20 per cent on the overall sales of EVs,” he stated.
The policy supports the state’s objectives of encouraging energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, according to earlier information supplied by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
In the meantime, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC)-operated electric buses that are registered in the state through December 31, 2026, would also benefit from lifelong exemptions from registration fees and road taxes.
The same benefits also apply to buses that are owned by businesses and utilized for employee transportation, so long as they aren’t used for business.
