Boman Irani Confirms Second Directorial Before His Birthday

Entertainment: Boman Irani made his directorial debut this year at the age of 65 with The Mehta Boys. Speaking to us ahead of his birthday tomorrow, the actor revealed that he has already started working on his next film as a director.
He said, “After directing a family drama, I’ve consciously decided to choose a completely different genre. Just because people liked my first film, I don’t think I can stick to the same genre. I want to explore the different worlds of cinema.”
A Family Affair: Interestingly, Boman’s son, Kayoze, also made his directorial debut in 2025 with Sarzameen, starring Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Reflecting on his new journey, Boman added, “Life has never been a bed of roses; you can’t avoid challenges. Making a film is not easy. From writing to finding someone to finance it, casting is a whole different game, then comes budgeting. You put your heart and soul into it, but you also have to accept that not everyone will like your work.”
When asked about actors he would like to work with from the fraternity, he said, “There are so many talented actors I want to collaborate with. If I name three, the other three will feel bad. Directing Mr. Bachchan would truly be an experience for future generations—you just need the courage to tell him, ‘This is the scene, and this is how it happens.’”
Boman also mentioned that besides directing, he enjoys playing the role of a teacher for emerging writers in the industry through his ventures.
