Deadly Mortar Strike in Balochistan Kills Family, Allegations Mount Against Pakistani Forces

Three members of a single family, including a child, killed in Awaran district as locals demand accountability

Balochistan: A tragic mortar strike in Pakistan’s Balochistan province has claimed the lives of three members of the same family, including a woman and a minor, while several others were injured. The incident occurred late at night in the Awaran district’s Kolwah region, specifically in the Cherri Malar area, raising fresh concerns over civilian safety in conflict-hit zones.

According to reports by The Balochistan Post, local residents have accused Pakistan Army of firing the mortar shell. The victims have been identified as Muhammad Umar, his wife Faiza, and their 12-year-old daughter. The sudden attack has devastated the family and left the entire community in shock.

In addition to the fatalities, at least three other family members were injured in the explosion. Among them was Umar’s daughter-in-law, Fahmeeda, who, along with other घायल victims, was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, there is no clear update yet on their medical condition.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic following the blast, with residents scrambling to rescue those trapped under debris. Nearby homes also suffered significant damage, and fear quickly spread across the locality. One local, speaking anonymously, called the moment “terrifying,” recalling how the powerful explosion shook the entire area and left people fearing for their lives.

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, where reports of civilian casualties during military operations frequently surface. Observers and local communities have repeatedly raised concerns about the lack of accountability in such incidents.

So far, Pakistani authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the allegations or clarified the circumstances surrounding the shelling. The absence of an immediate response has further fueled suspicion and criticism among locals.

Human rights groups have consistently called for stronger safeguards to protect civilians in conflict zones, warning that the use of heavy weaponry in densely populated areas can lead to devastating consequences.
