New Delhi: Nitin Naveen, the newly appointed National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), formally took charge of his office at the party headquarters in the national capital on Tuesday. He assumed charge just hours after his official promotion to the top organizational post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were present at the BJP headquarters during the ceremony. Senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and outgoing BJP President Jagat Prasad Nadda, were also in attendance.
Prime Minister Modi also met members of Nitin Naveen’s family briefly, congratulated them on the significant responsibility entrusted to him, and shared a few light moments.
At 45, Nitin Naveen’s elevation as BJP’s National President signals a “new phase” and a generational transition within the party, reflecting its emphasis on nurturing a new and youthful leadership under his guidance.
Earlier, while addressing party leaders and workers at the headquarters, Prime Minister Modi referred to Nitin Naveen as his “boss” and described himself as merely a party worker. Amid loud applause, he said, “When it comes to party affairs, I am a worker, and Nitin Naveen is my boss.”
The Prime Minister further said that Naveen possesses both “youthful energy” and “long organizational experience,” adding that these qualities would prove “extremely beneficial” for the party.
After being elected as the BJP’s National President, Nitin Naveen described the moment as one of “resolve” for him, stating that he was taking on not just a position, but also the “responsibility of the party’s ideology, traditions, and a nationalist movement.”
He said, “We are associated with a political party where politics is not about power but about dedication; not about luxury, but sacrifice. This is not comfort and indulgence, but penance. Politics is not a position of authority; it is a responsibility.”
Reiterating his commitment, he added, “This day is a moment of resolve for me. Today, I am assuming not just a post, but the responsibility of this party’s ideology, traditions, and a nationalist movement.”
Prior to his election as the next BJP President, Naveen had received widespread support across the country. The party’s returning officer confirmed that 37 sets of nominations were submitted in his support, including one from the parliamentary party.
Meanwhile, following his formal election as the party’s National President, the new BJP chief has been provided Z-category security. Officials confirmed that the VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been assigned to provide him high-level protection.
Armed CRPF commandos will now accompany him during nationwide travel, public programs, and remain deployed at his residence, ensuring round-the-clock security.
