India Cuts Water Flow : Over 11 days have passed since the gruesome killing of 26 civilians by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley. The security forces and government have amplified their actions against terrorists and Pakistan, respectively.
While on the diplomatic front, New Delhi has taken various steps like holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, on the military front, the security forces have been hunting for the terrorists in the valley. Here are the top updates on the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack:
1. Water flow cut to Pakistan: India has cut the flow of water through the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and is planning similar measures at the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River, the news agency PTI reported based on sources. The report further said that these hydroelectric dams – Baglihar in Jammu’s Ramban and Kishanganga in Kashmir – offer India the ability to regulate the timing of water releases.India Cuts Water Flow :
2. Pakistan-flagged ships banned at Indian ports: India on Saturday announced to ban on all imports from Pakistan, shutting its airspace for Pakistani airlines. Along with it, New Delhi also barred ships and cargoes with a Pakistani flag from venturing in its waters. Pakistani ships have been banned from all ports. Taking retaliatory measures, Pakistan has also banned Indian-flagged ships from entering its ports with immediate effect. As far as airspace is concerned, Pakistan had already banned Indian airlines a couple of days ago.
3. Naval chief briefs PM Modi: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi is reported to have briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the overall situation in the critical sea lanes, PTI reported on Saturday. The maritime authorities have alerted commercial ships to exercise caution as the Indian Navy is conducting drills in the Arabian Sea.

5. NIA to quiz shopkeepers: The NIA, which is investigating the Pahalgam terror attack, has identified several shopkeepers in Pahalgam and Baisaran who recently set up their business and were closed on or around April 22, when the attack took place. The NIA will question them.
6. Pakistan envoy issues nuclear threat: Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, said that his country will use the full spectrum of power, both conventional and nuclear, against India’s military action or interference with its water supply.
7. Shahbaz plays the blame game: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has refused Islamabad’s involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack. Sharif claimed that India failed to produce any concrete evidence and is “falsely” attempting to link Pakistan to the attack. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s call for a “neutral and transparent” international inquiry into the incident. However, India has reportedly rejected the Pakistan-demanded international probe citing lack of Pakistan’s credibility.
8. Pakistan continues ceasefire violations: Pakistan on Sunday violated the ceasefire for the 10th straight day. However, this was the largest scale violation in the last 10 days in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor areas.
9. Bilawal Bhutto, Imran Khan’s X account blocked: India on Sunday blocked X accounts of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and ex-minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Earlier on May 2, the YouTube channel of Shahbaz Shariff was banned. The social media accounts of actors, singers, and other prominent figures of Pakistan have also been banned, including those of Khwaja Asif, Atif Aslam, Shoaib Akhtar, Abida Parveen, Dawn News, Geo News and Samaa TV, among others.
