The accused has also sustained burns and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The victim lived with her parents in the Marol area of Andheri (East). Her father works as a driver, her elder brother is employed at a private firm, and her mother is a tailor. As per the complaint filed by her mother, the victim had known the accused, Jitendra Chandrakant Tambe alias Jeetu, for the past one and a half years. He also lived in the same locality.
Around six months ago, a neighbor informed the girl’s mother that she was seen roaming with Jeetu. Concerned about her daughter’s safety, the mother strictly warned her against meeting him.
However, on Sunday late at night, the girl’s mother received a phone call from a local resident, informing her that someone had poured petrol on her daughter and set her on fire. She rushed to the spot and found her daughter in a half-burnt state. When asked what had happened, the victim reportedly told her mother, “Maa, I did nothing wrong. Jeetu poured petrol on me and set me on fire.”

With police assistance, the severely injured girl was immediately admitted to Cooper Hospital. According to her mother’s complaint, the victim has suffered burns on her face, neck, back, abdomen, arms, and legs. Due to the severity of her injuries, she is struggling to speak properly.
