Nagpur Violence: FIR Reveals Rioters Tried To Harass Woman Officer, Used Petrol Bombs, Axes To Attack Police

Nagpur Violence: Nagpur witnessed intense clashes on March 17, where rioters allegedly molested a female police officer who was attempting to control the situation, as per the First Information Report (FIR).
The report also states that the mob made obscene gestures and comments toward other female officers, according to a News18 report.
Additionally, the FIR details how the rioters used axes, stones, and petrol bombs to attack the police and people further escalating the violence. Law enforcement officials were met with physical assaults and verbal abuse, while chaos spread across the affected areas.
Nagpur Violence: Over 600 People Named in FIR
According to reports accessed by CNN-News18, the police have identified 51 individuals, while 500-600 unknown people have also been named as accused in the ongoing violence.
One of the most shocking details in the FIR states that a female officer was inappropriately touched while trying to bring the situation under control. The document also highlights that members of the Hindu community and law enforcement personnel were targeted with verbal abuse during the unrest.
The report mentions that members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) initially staged a protest (‘andolan’), which was followed by another agitation by a different group.
During the clashes, several female police officers were injured, as protesters pelted stones at cars and two-wheelers, causing damage to public and private property.

The violence broke out after rumors spread that a holy book was burned during a right-wing protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb, as per a PTI report.
On March 17, around 200 to 250 members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal gathered near the Shivaji Maharaj statue in Mahal, Nagpur, to protest against the presence of Aurangzeb’s grave in the city.
The demonstrators raised slogans and displayed a symbolic green cloth filled with cow dung cakes as part of their protest.
Later that evening, at approximately 7:30 PM, 80 to 100 people reportedly gathered in Bhaldarpura, leading to heightened tensions and a breakdown of law and order in the area.
