PV Sindhu Reaches Semi-Finals of Malaysia Open
Olympic medallist advances after Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi retires injured during quarter-final
Sports: Olympic medallist PV Sindhu advanced to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open Super badminton tournament on Friday after her Japanese opponent Akane Yamaguchi retired due to injury during their quarter-final match.
Sindhu moved into the last four without having to complete the match after three-time world champion Yamaguchi was forced to withdraw. The Indian shuttler had already taken firm control of the contest, winning the first game 21–11.
Yamaguchi, who was seen playing with a knee brace, pulled out of the match following the opening game, citing injury concerns.
Currently ranked world No. 18, Sindhu is competing in the tournament for the first time since recovering from injury, making her semi-final appearance a significant milestone in her comeback.
