After assuming office in New Delhi on Monday, Gor presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 14. Referring to the occasion, he posted, “Today, I presented my credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan as the US Ambassador to India. I am grateful to President Trump for his trust and proud to advance his administration’s priorities. Together, we will strengthen our partnership in security, trade, energy, and technology, and build a US–India partnership that will define the 21st century.”
On his first working day in the national capital, the US Ambassador also addressed an audience and shared updates on India–US trade talks. He said that negotiations between the two countries resumed on January 13.
Gor stated, “Many of you have asked me for updates on the ongoing trade deal negotiations. Both sides are actively engaged. In fact, the next round of trade talks will take place on Tuesday. India is the world’s largest country, so getting this across the finish line is not easy, but we are determined to get there. Trade is critical to our relationship. We will also continue to work together in other key areas such as security, counterterrorism, energy, technology, education, and health.”
Calling India the most important partner for the United States, Gor added, “There is no partner more important than India. In the months and years ahead, my goal as Ambassador is to advance an ambitious agenda. We will do this as true strategic partners, with each bringing strength, respect, and leadership to the table.”
