Vir Das Reveals His Straightforward Pitch to Aamir Khan for ‘Happy Patel’
Comedian-actor recalls how a simple message led to multiple narrations and Aamir Khan’s green signal

Entertainment:
Actor and comedian Vir Das recently opened up about how he directly pitched his film ‘Happy Patel’ to Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, sharing an interesting insight into their rare interaction. Vir admitted that Aamir’s stature often makes frequent conversations difficult. Recalling how little contact they had over the years, he said, “He is at such a high position that you don’t really get to speak to him much. I hadn’t spoken to Aamir sir for almost 10 years.”
Vir revealed that he finally decided to reach out with a simple message. “I texted him saying, ‘Aamir sir, can I call you?’ He replied, ‘Yes, call now.’ When he picked up, it felt like we spoke every week,” Vir shared, describing how warm and natural the conversation felt despite the long gap.
The discussion soon shifted to the film Vir was eager to present. Explaining his bold approach, he said, “I told him, ‘Sir, I have a film and I want you to make it. If you don’t make this film, nobody else can.’” According to Vir, Aamir Khan’s response was immediate and decisive.
“He said, ‘Okay, come next week and narrate it to me.’ I have never seen a superstar who is so accessible and who gives you time so quickly,” Vir added, clearly impressed by Aamir’s openness.
However, what followed was an intense and detail-driven process focused entirely on the script. Vir explained, “I narrated it to him, and after that, there were nine more narrations.” He emphasized that Aamir’s primary concern was always the writing, highlighting the actor-producer’s deep commitment to strong storytelling.
Talking about how the project progressed, Vir concluded, “After nine narrations, he said, ‘Take some money and shoot five scenes.’ I did a test shoot, and then he said, ‘Go on the floor.’”
The anecdote once again underlines Aamir Khan’s reputation for being meticulous about scripts, and how a clear vision and honest pitch can open doors—even to one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.
