PM personally conveys condolences after the sudden death of V. Srinivasan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally spoke to veteran Indian athlete and Rajya Sabha MP P.T. Usha to express his condolences following the sudden demise of her husband, V. Srinivasan, officials confirmed.
According to family sources, 67-year-old Srinivasan collapsed at his residence on the morning of January 30, 2026. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors were unable to revive him. Srinivasan was widely regarded as a constant pillar of support in Usha’s illustrious sporting and political journey.
During his conversation with the former Olympic sprint icon, Prime Minister Modi expressed heartfelt sympathy to Usha and her family in this difficult time. He acknowledged her significant contributions to Indian sports and public life, and prayed for strength and peace for the bereaved family.
The couple has a son, Ujjwal, and Srinivasan stood firmly by Usha through her remarkable journey—from being one of India’s most celebrated sprinters to becoming President of the Indian Olympic Association and later a Member of Parliament. As of now, neither Usha nor her office has issued an official public statement on Srinivasan’s passing, though condolences have been pouring in from across the sporting and political communities.
Usha Mourns Ajit Pawar’s Death
Separately, Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha took to X (formerly Twitter) to express deep sorrow over the sudden death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. She wrote,
“I am shocked and saddened by the sudden demise of Maharashtra Deputy CM Shri Ajit Pawar ji. His absence will be felt deeply in the world of sports. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and supporters. Om Shanti.”
Ajit Pawar passed away on Wednesday morning after the small aircraft he was traveling in crashed while attempting to land in Baramati. Reports indicate that up to five people were on board the plane, all of whom tragically lost their lives. The aircraft reportedly went down in an open field, and emergency services rushed to the site soon after.
Beyond his political career, Pawar was known for his significant contributions to sports administration in Maharashtra. Usha’s message highlighted the impact of his loss on the sporting fraternity, reflecting the respect he commanded beyond politics.
The tragic incident has triggered a wave of grief across Maharashtra and the country, with political leaders, sports personalities, and citizens expressing their condolences.
