BREAKING NEWS: 5 killed, 40 injured in stage collapse at Jain religious event in UP’s Baghpat

A stage collapsed at a Jain Nirvana festival in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat on Tuesday, killing 5 and injuring at least 40, including women and children.

The incident happened when a makeshift stage, made out of bamboo and wood, collapsed during a laddoo ceremony in Baghpat’s Bagaur.According to police officials, hundreds of devotees reached the spot this morning to offer laddoos to Lord Adinath in the presence of Jain monks.

However, the makeshift stage prepared for the devotees collapsed under their weight, trapping dozens, officials added.”This event has been conducted for nearly 30 years. At least 40 people have been injured. They have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. Twenty people have already been released after administering first aid,” said Baghpat’s District Magistrate Asmita Lal.

Officials, including senior police officials, rushed to the spot with a large police force to manage the situation. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.Wishing speedy recovery to the injured, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed district officials to leave no stones unturned when it came to treating the devotees.
